My main reason for trying to learn Thai was so that my wife and I together could make sure our kids also learnt the language.
Ever since Ariya was born I, and to a lesser extent Seerung would try as much as possible to speak Thai with her. By the time we left for Thailand she would mix up both languages and I would estimate it to be about 75% English and 25% Thai. Although she could understand Thai just as well as English she wouldn’t talk it all that much.
I just got off the phone to her a few minutes ago and I would say that those percentages have turned full circle with 75% of our conversation being in Thai and 25% in English! We have success but it took moving to Thailand to achieve it.
