สนามกอล์ฟ เขื่อนสิรินธร Sirindhorn Dam Golf course, Ubon Ratchathani

This is the fourth and final review of Golf courses in Ubon Ratchathani. The other three can be found here.

สนามกอล์ฟ เขื่อนสิรินธร Sirindhorn Dam Golf course is located the furthermost from Ubon but in my opinion it is the best course in the province of Ubon.
Due to it’s location it is also the quietest and it is quite common to be the only group on the entire course some days. As the name suggests it is located at the Sirindhorn Dam (เขื่อนสิรินธร) which as I found out two days ago on a visa run to Chong Mek it is 76km from Tung Sri Muang (main park in the centre of town) and it took me 1 hour and 3 minutes to drive. This will be quicker once the road works are finished on the Phiboon to Chong Mek part of the road.

The lake is named after Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn who is the second daughter of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. She also visits regularly and stays at her own private house in the complex. As a result the place is immaculate and so is the golf course! The greens are a delight and there is enough interesting hazards to keep most golfers amused. The 19th hole is well set up with food and drinks and there is also accommodation available.

Due to it being so quiet I would suggest calling ahead to organise caddies if you prefer a sun rise tee off like I do. The number is 045 366081-3

**Update November 2011**

Part of a comment from Craig says “Just an update on prices for anyone interested – TB 200 for as many rounds as you want for the day. Compulsory caddie hire TB 80 per ROUND + tip.
From January 2012 a concession card is available for TB 3000 which gives a 50% reduction on green fees i.e TB 100. Passport + 1 photo required to obtain card.”

  1. They are building more holes so the course is getting better and better.

  2. I asked about Membership and was told that it was only for Government employees. Be that as it may its going to turn out really well for the area as I am sure the 18 hole course will bring in more golfer/visitors to the area which hopefuly will turn into some more $ spend in the area :)

  3. Farang from USA here, happen to be a golf nut married to a Thai from Isan area. Are there high quality homes/communities relatively close to this course?

    • Hi Ron,

Unfortunately (as far as I am aware) there isn’t close to this particular course. It really is in the middle of no where. Ubon city is your closest bet which is over an hours drive away.

  4. Hi Ron, nothing in the area Im afraid .. unless you build your own place nearby.

  5. Hi anyone aware if the Sirindhorn Golf course has been affected by the rain ? and the near capacity of the dam ?

    • Played today and was pleasantly surprised. A few of the fairways were a bit “soggy” in parts (mainly the 8th and 9th ). Also a couple of greens in the process of being relayed. Generally speaking however, the course is in excellent condition.

      Happy golfing !

      • Hi Craig, thanks so much for taking the time to update us with that info. I will put it on the main part of the blog. Is the concession card valid for one year?

        • Hi Memock, concession cards run from January to January ( obviously better to purchase early on in the year as it will expire end Dec ) – i hope this makes sense ?

By my basic maths – you have to play this course more than 30 times in the year to make the consession card worthwhile.

Btw, i did notice some work going on to add the extra holes referred to in earlier posts, but this looks at a very early stage and quite a long way off until ready.

          Cheers, Craig

  6. Thanks for that extra info Craig, you would have to be a once a week player to make that card work for you. Good to hear that work is still going on with the extra holes.

  7. Hi Craig , yes I was there in Dec / Jan and they are building a further 2 holes. A new PAR3 is in play just after the Par5 6th hole. They tell me that they will have 18 holes in place over time which is in support of the new road and plans for more tourists coming to the area (both Thai and non- Thai) which is good. From what I gather the green fees will all go, obvioulsy, up once the 18 holes are in place . I will keep you guys posted. The consession card might be good thing to get at some point just before the 18 holes are in place. In short there are good plans afoot for the golf course and the accomodation offered in the Sirindhorn Dam ‘resort’. Cheers

  8. I played here in January 2011, as non championship courses go in Thailand, this one was pretty good. We were joined by the owner on the 7th and were advised that they were in the process of creating a further 9 holes at this complex. There was substantial works going on within the fields to the back on the fifth fairway and I was wondering whether these works are now complete? I’m intending playing and provably staying there in February 2013.
