Due to the very short notice given for this funeral we would really appreciate if you could forward this email onto as many local Ubon people as possible that you think may have known Alex. As I have only known Alex for one year I do not know many of his old friends.
Regards, Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
I’m curious about a few things. How does a foreigner get to be cremated at a Wat in Thailand? I always thought if I die here in TH – I’d rather just be cremated instead of have my family go through all the drama of flying me back to the usa and having a service.
Is it something we can just DO?
Thanks for any help.
Hi Vern, from my very limited knowledge of funerals here in Thailand yes, we can just do it! Of course a small amount of money is expected to be paid to the temple but really that is about it.
Hi.,
Just like to pass on my condolences to Alex’s relations and friends. I have been writing emails to Alex for many years and called on him in Thiland a few times when there on business. It brought a tear to my eye when I heard of his death.
I live in New Zealand but was born in Co. Down, Northern Ireland.
Ivan.
Hi Ivan,
Thanks so much for your comment. Please check back in a few days as I plan to do an article about Alex with some photos of the funeral. Where in NZ are you?
Just want to send my condolences to Alex’s family. I belong to the exiles. Live in Canada, was born In Belfast Northern Ireland
Andrew
I am originally from NI and I also was a member of Exiles where I first came into contact with Alex. On a visit to NI earlier in the year I met up for lunch with Alex’s and his oldest and best friend Matthew. It was a great pleasure for me to meet him, after only having written contact, and what a rip-roaring time we had. I found him to be great company, gosh he could talk about anything and everything and he did. I knew Alex was ill but how very sad I was to get the news of his death.
I’m checking in regularly because I am most interested in the blog you are going to write for Alex, I’m sure he would feel very honoured. Alex made a big impression on me and I’m sorry that I and many other people especially his family have lost a very special person.
Just wanted to say I was fortunate enough to meet Alex Baillie when his health was a great deal better than it was the last time I saw him. He left my home for the return journey to Thailand, he looked quite ill but was perky enough to be wanting this long and tiring flight back to a place where he had enjoyed so much of his life. He was a unique person, and it was very nice to have met and known him.
Hi Andy,
Very nice of you to leave a message about Alex. I think of him often and it would seem others do as well.
