2010 Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival

The 2010 candle festival in Ubon Ratchathani is fast approaching and it is the biggest even by far for the region. The festival runs for the entire month of July. I get many emails from readers asking me for information in English about this festival. I am happy to report that yesterday I came across a English programme that covers the entire festival in a very easy to read format (apart from the grammar and spelling mistakes!)

  1. Please excuse my newbieness 🙂 I have never heard of this festival…it sounds wonderful. Is it also celebrated in Chiang Mai, or is Ubon, candle festival central? Either way…I hope I can make it next year and that you post the same information.

  2. Hi Snap, you are excused!

There is some more information here if you are interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubon_Ratchathani_Candle_Festival

I was searching the internet for the dates of the Candle festival and who should provide me with the info but you.
    many thanks mate.

  4. Memock, thanks for the detail here. Am trying to organise myself for a trip to Yaso / Ubon over the long weekend, and the return bus tickets.
In the past what has been the biggest day for celebrations in Ubon, is it the night parade on the 26th, or the day parade on the 27th?

    • Hi Andy,

I am sorry to admit that I am the wrong person to ask about the candle festival as I have never actually attended it personally apart from a wonder around the park. However from what I have heard it is the day parade on the 27th that is the big event but hopefully other readers may be able to confirm this.
