A new look side garden

Another blog about the garden. This time it is fairly boring and short as it is only about the tiny little side garden that we have.

Two and a half years ago I blogged about this little patch of dirt (read it here) and received a couple of comments about how thin it was and that surely it would fall down!

I am happy to report that it is still standing and that we have changed its appearance. Before we planted a lot of herbs in it but the neighbours chickens soon took over. My inlaws resorted to putting up some ugly mesh to keep the little blighters out but I thought it looked really ugly so said that as soon as our new herb garden is finished we will pull this one out and replant it with some shrubs. That time finally arrived so we set to work.

We also planted the same shurbs out the front along the complete length of our block. This time though we planted them straight into the ground (no raised garden bed). For some reason I only took a photo of the tiny little section between the gate and the side garden.

Here is a photo of the girls getting their hands dirty with the side garden as well as the finished product.

  1. Gonna feed the village?

  2. What a lovely side garden!
Not only will you have something green & organic on the street-side, the shrubs will help soften the “industrial” look of the concrete & chain link fence. And, you’ll get a bit more visual privacy from passersby [not that you need it, as you seem to be in a very rural area].
Your two landscaping assistants looked to be very involved ["hands-on" as we say in America] in the project. Good for them.

    • Thanks Ken for your nice words. Yes the girls love getting into the garden with their Mum whenever they can which is great to see. The shrubs will soften the look for sure as you said but another bonus is that it will help keep the ever painful dust away.
