Thai airways and Nok air to share Ubon route

It would seem that my source was correct last week with it being confirmed by the Bangkok Post this morning.

“Thai Airways International has succumbed to political pressure and will keep flying between Bangkok and Ubon Ratchathani, one of the three loss-making domestic routes that was supposed to end later this month. However, the flag carrier will only offer one flight a day on the route, allowing sister budget carrier Nok Airlines to assume the two other daily services, starting on March 1.”

How will Thai Airways ever return to it’s former glory when meddling politicians still seem to have a say in what is a private company?

Yes, yet another Thai update!

The rumours are still flying thick and fast and as there are so many people interested in what Thai airways are up to I thought it best I present any new information that comes my way. I need to stress that this is not confirmed and is just a rumour at this stage.

My informant emailed me and said “Hi Andrew! Got news from my friend yesterday about Thai Airways.
He said, they decided not to cancel Thai Air in Ubon BUT they will reduce the flight to 1 flight, and Nok Air 2 flights.
Stupid thing is that all Thai Air staffs have to move to BKK anyway, so it doesn’t make sense to let Nok Air control that 1 flight of Thai Air. The whole systems messed up :-(

It is also been reported on a local Thai Forum called Guide Ubon.

Rumour was a rumour!

It seems that my information that I received regarding Nok Air only flying three times a week was perhaps not correct. The latest info from two different people is that they will indeed fly three times a day the same as Thai airways. Of course this is still just a rumour but one that makes a lot more sense!

I am currently in Laos at the moment (Tha Khet to be exact) and will be away for a few more days so sorry about the lack of recent posts. Once I get back home and settled in I will finish my travel report from two weeks ago and then start this one. Expect lots of good photos as my Dad is along with me this time and he is an avid photographer!

Thai airways in Ubon update.

Sorry to interupt my series on our holiday to laos but there is a lot of talk around Ubon at the moment regarding the fate of Thai airways service to and from Bangkok. It has reached the highest levels of government over the last few weeks. For a bit of a recap please read this and this.
I got word tonight of a further and much more serious development in the on going saga and it isn’t good. Whilst I must say that it is still a rumour at this stage it is from a source that I know and trust.
It seems that the swapping of Thai airways for Nok air is still happening and will occur in early March this year. The big news however is that Nok air will only be offering three flights per week as opposed to Thai airways current three flights per day!
I actually find this very hard to believe given that Thai airways flights are almost always full but I have to admit that nothing in Thailand really amazes me that much anymore!
Time will tell and I will get back to you as soon as possible to either confirm or deny this rumour.

Nok Air to replace Thai Airways in Ubon – February 5

On November 28 I blogged about an article in the Bangkok Post which mentioned that it seemed that the budget arm of Thai Airways, Nok air, might be replacing Thai airways on the Ubon to Bangkok route.
A friend of mine last night who has many friends who work at Thai airways said that it apparently is true and that the change over will happen on February 5.
When I blogged about it last month I wrote that i thought it was a good thing until a reader, Michael, reminded me that Nok Air uses Don Muang airport and not Suvarnabhumi (the main airport where every international flight arrives and departs.) This means that only one flight a day (Air Asia) will get you to Suvarnabhumi as apposed to the current four flights a day we currently have.
